Hyper Island

May-June 2026, Contract

Hyper Island (HI) is a YH-accredited school for design, marketing and technology, attracting students ranging from recent high school graduates to experienced professionals seeking to upskill or pivot careers. Alongside its core programs, HI offers executive education for leaders and organisations. Its methodology centres on practical, real-world projects: students work directly with companies as clients, guided by Industry Leads — practitioners invited to teach in their area of expertise.

BACKGROUND

Design and facilitate a 7-week course introducing students to change management — covering core concepts, implementation of change initiatives, managing resistance, and measuring impact.

CHALLENGE

Hyper Island invited me to serve as Industry Lead for a 7-week Change Management course within the Digital Creative program. Prior courses had covered topics like Branding, Human-Centered Design, and Storytelling; this was the students' first course focused on leadership, people, and organisational culture. The course had to deliver on two learning indicators: enabling students to gather and evaluate insights that inform organisational strategy, and equipping them to create a Change Management plan that supports long-term transformation.

SOLUTIONS

I worked with Hyper Island staff to design the overall learning experience and course structure, including a dedicated course page on the class website and an expansion of the learning outcomes to align with industry expectations.

I selected and invited guest speakers across relevant topics, as well as facilitated workshops and discussions myself that covered stakeholder management, change management frameworks, conflict, communication, and leadership. Weekly mentoring sessions supported students individually, alongside client management support and help interpreting briefs. I provided both onsite and online support throughout, and conducted final assessments by reviewing and grading student video submissions.
